I believe one of the most powerful assets we have to change the world for good is imagination. I was inspired by Dr.Ruha Benjamin's most recent book 'Imagination: A Manifesto' to create an end of year exhibition that required my high school students to create a system (political, economic, cultural, etc.) technology, or piece of art in direct response to UN Sustainable Development Goals. It had to be based wisdom for the past and they had to describe in detail a future scenario in which it would help create peace and prosperity between people and the planet, now and in the future.

They produced some amazing work. From solar powered crabs that rebuild coral reefs, fashionable and durable biodegradable clothes made from food waste, solar harvesting satellites owned by no one, and LEGO style 'Peace Bricks' bricks for rebuilding war torn communities, they showed the importance of the Toni Morrison quote: "Dream a little before you think."

We must imagine peace when it is not here.
